I'm installing Windows 7 Professional and have same problem with sysprep giving a fatal error. For me there is no media player process but there is the wmpnetwk.exe which when I kill then sysprep works fine.

I am running Virtual PC on a Vista Business Host. The client OS is Windows 2000. My client OS got corrupted, so I went and got a backup of my Virtual HD (I was smart or so I thought).
Now I'm getting this ugly error. I have tried your solution and it does not work. I have checked and double checked I am doing things right. No dice.
Help About for Virtual PC says version 6. Any advice would be deeply appreciated. My life sucks enough that I still have to use Windows 2000 at work. To add insult to injury I am not able to work from Home if I don't have Windows 2000 VPC working.
Thanks in advance.

I've been trying to figure out this problem for a few days on Windows 7 RTM and this solution did not affect the situation. Did they fix one bug just to create another?

I did as well, but in my case it was the wmpnetwk.exe that solved the problem after killing it in Task Manager.

I had this same problem. Stopping the media player process worked for me as well.
